our pop cafe cover for August should have been the late former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, however i got so busy, i never had the chance to do an article about her.
may i express my high respects for Mrs. Aquino.

Lucy Torres Gomez - Celebrity of the Month

i had a quick recall of all Lucy's memories in Showbiz when i read her article on Phil Star.
i am not a fan of that broadsheet. it was a Sunday, if not the exact Sunday of the father's day. i used to chance upon Lucy's column before but it was about make-up or something, so it struck me when i see her column as "Where is God when it hurts this much?" (about the death of Douglas Quijano).

i was not a fan of Lucy all along. it was just neutral for me seeing that lethargic her in "Richard Loves Lucy" or in "All about you" (GMA-7). there were times in the past that she had a bad hairstylist for not concealing her forehead. there was even a golden moment in Television seeing her singing Mr. Dreamboy in SOP.

now, more than ever. i am fan - a huge fan.

"the sweet life" (the late afternoon/early evening talk show in QTV11) best personifies the true (as we see it) Lucy Torres Gomez. Funny, intellectual-but-very-down-to-earth and as an haciendera are the qualities that viewers can't help but admire on her.

these are the same attributes why people patronize her in "Shall we dance?" (makipagsabayan ba kay Arnel Ignacio na magpatawa?)

My admiration of her could go on and on for lengthy page of this blog. but there's no need for that. you just have to find out for yourself in her two shows and her column.

She's now more than the wife of Richard Gomez, from their Hacienda to our homes - it doesnt matter if her twin sister is named Wilma - she has truly arrived!

and for this month, she's our featured celebrity. truly, an upgrade!

it's nice that we see a movement on her career - this cover & almost-lead role in afternoon soap.

people hope that this creates waves to put her on the limelight this time.

CELEBRITY OF THE MONTH: Angel Locsin

June 2009: Angel Locsin is Pop Cafe's Celebrity of the Month.

On this generation, it is that easy to be One of the Philippine's Prettiest Faces. what's hard is to be like Angel Locsin - both beautiful and considered as`one of the kindest person in the showbusiness.

GMA-7, then, always attributed why they gave much confidence in Angel was because of sincere and hardworking person that she is.

at ABS-CBN, she remains and reigns as one of the top female leads in the country. Her current project is "Only You" with Sam Milby and Diether Oampo. Thanks, she gets to play normal human character.

Being our POP Cafe's cover (magazine type)/ celebrity of the month, she has been every magazine cover over the year. let's look back and see the faces and phases of Queen Angel - because she is Princess no more.

In people's hearts and tastebuds: Only her!

Angel on top, deserves no less but an UPgrade!

Diet in Harvard

when i first heard of Diether Ocampo, going to Harvard University for Harvard Project For Asian and International Relations (HPAIR), what else to say, but WOW!

this is the first time i heard of HPAIR and the conference is in no less - Harvard. On second thoughts, baka naman hindi big deal. Baka venue lang or just beause of the media hype kaya ang lakas ng dating.

i checked websites, it proved to be worth the media attention and praises for Diether and Karen Davila (who's also a delegate).

for that, diether deserves an upgrade rating.

i believe that Diether is commendable on what he does and his charity works (he also advocates PETA - organization for the welfare of animals). i had an issue of Metro Society which features Diet, Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski and Tessa Prieto Valdez. there, he cited his involvement in the KIDS Foundation.


on this course of gathering materials for this log. i happened to read blogs which is on the opposite side (there's always the other pole).

Going to Harvard and representing his causes in a big accomplishments for Diet. i believe in his earnest intentions. on the other end, there were reports that Diet had his misbehavior during his stay in the conference. His acts are, allegedly, not to be considered well-mannered.

these are rumors. sorry for now, but medyo gullible ang POP Cafe. well deduct some points on diet's good deeds.

so, Diet's rating: Neutral!

Brillante ma. Mendoza, nanalo sa cannes ng best director for "Kinatay".

First time ko marinig ung Cannes film festival nung bata pa ako. Si Dina Bonnevie nagkukuwento experience nila, (for Gumapang ka sa Lusak yata, di ko sure) with Lino brocka. Hello, ang taas na ng level ni Brocka nun ah, pero di siya nanalo. then, may time na si raymond red nanalo na rin for short film...

Sobrang ang tagal kong na-amaze after watching, "slumdog Millionaire". At some point nanghihinayang ako, bakit bumbay pa ang gumawa nun? bakit di pilipino? pero naka-move on na ako dahil dito.

ung "kinatay",hindi ko pa napanood eh. Di ko pa na-try maghanap kung meron sa pirated (he he).
Last year kasi ang bilis sa pirated ng "Serbis". pero hindi ko nagustuhan ang "serbis".

Nakakashock kaya dun si Lou Veloso. yun ang tumatak sa isip ko, si Mr. truman nag-bold?!

Grabe ung eksena nung nasa morgue ung tatay.. tapos nagmamasahe si coco - ang ganda ng parallel (di ko sure ung term pagdating sa film, basta parallel ang ginamit kong word).

for Mr. dante or Brillante, ang commendable pa sa kanya is on his interview kay Jessia Sojo. he wore a shirt na "proud kapampangan". Hindi ako cabalen, i hope pag may kagaya niya na tubong Bataan na may ahievement na ganun. Sobrang proud din na Bataaeno.

Tapos, interview niya sa ANC, at one point nasabi niya "H-entertainment". Kapampangan nga!

Anyways, anu't anuman Pilipino siya at pride natin na makaabot siya sa ganun level.

katrina - after the storm (not yet...)

out of nowhere, iba ang topic namin ah -bigla ako tinanong nyan ng naglalaba sa amin.

while everyone gave attention to the Katrina-Hayden sex issue, i was avoiding to log anything about it.
Baka ma-upset lang ang babasa to find out na walang link dito.

i read on other blogs, nag rush sila to post anything para may laman ang arhives nila for May. Since nga that issue, patuluyan na akong di nakapagpost for May.

i really like kc's personality but pagdating sa movies nya medyo di p masyado lumalabas ang lahat ng galing nya.
both of her movies are nice.
For the first time is really entertaining on the first part. medyo ang tagal ng drama on the 2nd half. Na-drag ng konti ang story.
when i met u, i felt nagsuffer sa effort na gawing sobrang simple ng story.

anyways. kc gave her best on both films. looking forward on next movie na medyo mature.

would you believe, i learned about it morning next day? judy ann santos and ryan agoncillo tied the knot on April 28, 2009.


we're not friends but i'm a fan, and i managed to get some pics of their wedding.
